Sarah & Spencer
As an experienced Alderbrook Resort wedding photographer, I can honestly say this venue is one of those places that immediately shifts the pace of a wedding day. Set along Hood Canal and surrounded by forest, it creates a calm, immersive setting that feels a little removed from everything else—in the best way.
Alderbrook Resort is one of those venues that feels like you’ve left Seattle without actually having to travel far. Tucked along Hood Canal and surrounded by forest, it has this quiet, immersive quality that makes the entire wedding feel more like a retreat than a single-day event.
As a Seattle wedding photographer, I consider it one of my favorite venues for couples who want their celebration to feel intentional, relaxed, and deeply connected to the setting. You’re surrounded by water, mountains, and forest, and that changes the pace of everything. Guests settle in. The timeline breathes a little more. And the focus shifts from just the wedding day to the full experience of being together.
For couples who care about presence just as much as aesthetics, it’s a really meaningful place to get married.
One of the things I love most about weddings at Alderbrook is how naturally the celebration extends beyond just the wedding day. Many couples choose to host a welcome evening where guests board the Lady Alderbrook and take a short cruise across Hood Canal for a rehearsal dinner, then return to the resort for a more relaxed night on the cottage lawn. Think bonfires, light bites, and an open bar with everyone settling in and connecting before the day even begins. It sets the tone in a really meaningful way and turns the entire weekend into an experience, not just an event.
While Alderbrook is more full-service than a blank canvas venue, having a planner still makes a noticeable difference in how the day feels.
Between multiple event spaces, guest accommodations, and a full weekend of events, there are a lot of moving pieces that need to be coordinated thoughtfully. A planner helps create a sense of flow—from welcome events to the wedding day itself—so nothing feels rushed or disconnected.
They’re also incredibly helpful in navigating timeline decisions, especially with light, weather, and how to best use the property.
Alderbrook is one of the venues I recommend most often for couples looking for a destination-style wedding in Washington. The light here is softer and more diffused than what you typically get in the city, especially in the late afternoon along the water. It creates a really natural, dimensional look that works beautifully for both film and digital.
There’s also a lot of variety within a small radius—forest, waterfront, open lawn—which allows us to create a gallery that feels layered without needing to move locations. As an Alderbrook Resort wedding photographer, having this depth adds an immersive effect.
One thing I always keep in mind here is timing. Because you’re working with both natural light and a more relaxed, multi-space flow, it's key to build in space for portraits without pulling you away from your guests.
Alderbrook is one of the few venues where the setting does more than just look beautiful—it shapes the entire experience. The pace softens, the moments linger a little longer, and the focus naturally returns to what matters most. When everything comes together here, it feels less like an event and more like something fully lived.
Starting between $10,000-12,000, this fee covers the cost of tables, chairs, standard linens, flatware, stemware, china, and event spaces for the rehearsal, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.
My couples will typically spend between $12,000-$14,000 for a full weekend package that includes 10 hours of wedding day coverage, two photographers, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, film & digital imagery, aerial drone imagery, and their online gallery with all their best images to share with family and friends.
Late spring through early fall tends to be the most popular, especially for waterfront ceremonies and outdoor receptions. Summer offers the longest light, while early fall can bring a softer, more layered atmosphere with the surrounding trees.
My approach is to support both the structure of the day and the space within it. I’ll guide you when needed—especially with light, timing, and portraits—but I’m equally focused on allowing the experience to unfold naturally so your photos feel honest, not overly directed.
A blend of editorial and documentary photography works beautifully here. The setting naturally supports composed, intentional imagery, while the pace of the weekend allows for genuine, in-between moments to unfold without feeling rushed.
As soon as you have locked in your date at Alderbrook Resort and Spa, you should book your wedding photographer. You'll want to ensure you have first dibs on their preferred vendor list.
